Former Lazio goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani has said that Inter have utilised the calendar of pictures the best this season, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport, via FCInter1908, Luca Marchegiani explained that Inter’s poor results this season had seemed bigger than they were because AC Milan and Napoli just kept on winning all of their fixtures.

“Inter took advantage of the calendar, the missteps were few but they seemed a lot because those in front always won. The team lost champions but no promises were made about high profile players.”

Inter managed to rotate their squad very effectively over the past month or so meaning that when they played weaker teams such as Empoli and Spezia, they could rest key players and still get the necessary three points.

Luca Marchegiani also feels that Dutch wing back Denzel Dumfries will start to improve for the team after his slow start to life at Inter.

“There was a very important basis, also in terms of the actual value of the players. Dumfries will become important for example.”

It is not easy to compare players with Achraf Hakimi but Luca Marchegiani feels that Matteo Darmian is showing his quality more this season.

“It is difficult to compare with Hakimi, but there is Darmian who is giving you what he could not give you a year ago because he was behind the Moroccan.”
