Inter Milan striker Joaquin Correa will most likely remain at Appiano Gentile for his final contractual year as his transfer to Panathinaikos is now dead in the water.

The former Lazio man is currently at the very bottom of Simone Inzaghi’s attacking pecking order. Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic are all ahead of him.

Moreover, the 30-year-old has been struggling to find himself a new club this summer. His forgettable loan spell at Marseille didn’t help his case.

But over the past few days, Panathinaikos were seemingly on the right track to sealing the striker’s signature.

However, the Greek giants failed to land the Argentine before the deadline to present their Conference League squad to UEFA.

So while the transfer market in Greece remains open until September 11th, the Athens-based giants wouldn’t want to bring in a prominent signing if he’s not eligible to play in Europe.

Therefore, the transfer collapsed, leaving Correa with little to no options at the moment.

So according to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, the Argentina international is almost certain to remain at Inter for another year.

Correa would act as a fifth-choice striker. In other words, he’ll be a benchwarmer, unless an injury crisis occurs upfront.

The only possible escape route for the former Sampdoria and Sevilla man would be a move to Turkiye where the market will remain active until September 13th.

While some Turkish sides had inquired about the Argentine in the past few weeks, there haven’t been any concrete talks just yet.

Correa’s contract with the Italian champions will expire at the end of the season. So if he doesn’t end up sealing a move in the coming days, he’ll be out of the door by June.
