Ex-Lazio Defender Pino Wilson: “It Amazed Me That Inter’s Joaquin Correa Didn’t Try To Stop Luiz Felipe Red Card”

Former Lazio defender Pino Wilson believes that Inter forward Joaquin Correa should have intervened on behalf of his friend and former teammate Luiz Felipe to prevent the Brazilian from getting sent off in the Nerazzurri’s clash with Lazio on Saturday.

Speaking to Italian news outlet lalaziosiamonoi.it, the former Biancocelesti captain stated that he was surprised to see Correa not take action to try and explain that the Lazio defender’s intentions had been a harmless joke.

The ending stages of the clash at the Stadio Olimpico had been bad-tempered, with Inter players confronting their Lazio counterparts over what they felt was bad sportsmanship after the Biancocelesti scored from a counterattack while Federico Dimarco was on the ground recovering from a heavy challenge.

This fractious atmosphere continued into the post-match, and Felipe went over to Correa and jumped on his back as though celebrating during the post-match scenes.

Felipe had meant to cheer up his friend with whom he had spent three seasons at Lazio, but the Argentine expressed annoyance at the gesture and the Brazilian was sent off.

“It amazed me how the Tucu did not run to the referee to say that they are friends and the gesture was absolutely friendly,” Wilson stated. “We know that only the referee’s report is important and he was the best person to try to clear the Brazilian.”
