Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola believes that had former Nerazzurri striker Mauro Icardi currently been at the club, he could have succeeded under current coach Simone Inzaghi.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch steam, as reported by FCInterNews, the 43-year-old spoke about the Argentine’s qualities and suggested that he would be a good fit for Inzaghi’s tactical ideas.

Icardi scored prolifically during his time with the Nerazzurri, with his consistent goal return a bright spot for the club as they struggled to finished higher than midtable under a succession of different managers.

However, he parted ways with the club, leaving in the summer of 2019 to join current club Paris Saint-Germain.

Ventola believes that if the current PSG man were to return to the Giuseppe Meazza, he could score prolifically leading the line for a team which currently look to be in fine attacking form under former Lazio boss Inzaghi.

“I was shocked by the first half of Inter against Real Madrid, who could not get out from the area and to play,” he said. “I see an improved team, despite having lost those two players. I would have seen Icardi back at Inter with Inzaghi, perhaps in place of Dzeko, but I understand that Maurito’s return to the Nerazzurri would have been complicated.”
