Former Inter striker Giampaolo Pazzini expects that Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta is aiming to extent the contract of Ivan Perisic but that it’s too early to say whether an agreement will be found.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the former striker suggested that it still remains to be seen how the negotiations with Perisic will play out, while he also named Lautaro Martinez as a vital player for Inter.

The Nerazzurri are in the midst of the decisive contract talks with Perisic, with the player having yet to accept an offer for a new deal but the club still optimistic that they can convince him to stay for another season.

As Pazzini points out, CEO Marotta has not hidden the fact that the club are working to try and convince the 33-year-old, but the outcome of the talks will depend on more than just what the club want.

“From personal experience I can say that it’s difficult to evaluate this situation from outside because we don’t really know what’s going on,” he said.

“Marotta has already made clear that he wants Perisic to stay, but we still have to see how negotiations go,” he went on.

Pazzini also weighed in on the Nerazzurri’s summer transfer window, stating that “For me there are at least four fundamental players at Inter and Lautaro is one of them, he gives you guaranteed quality that other forwards don’t.”

“You’ve already lost Lukaku, Dzeko has one more season left and Correa doesn’t score that many goals” he added. “Inter has a strong spine, this year perhaps the thing that was missing was quality from substitutes to fill out the team.”
