Massimo Moratti believes the European Super League project was doomed from the start, after Inter and eight other clubs pulled out today.

Inter confirmed their withdrawal from the franchise on Wednesday morning along with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, following a mass exodus from the Premier League’s six clubs last night.

The fallout is set to continue for weeks but the Nerazzurri’s former owner and president admits he isn’t surprised to see the Super League collapse.

“It was a clumsy attempt to do it,” Moratti told La Repubblica (via FcInterNews.it).

“The Super League didn’t have the foundations to continue so it reached the right ending.

“The clubs got it wrong in terms of timing and communication, and in how they judged the reactions to the project.

“It was already a failed project when it started, as the facts have since proved.”

Inter were one of 12 leading European clubs who signed up to the project, along with AC Milan and Juventus from Serie A.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool were involved from the Premier League while Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid joined up from La Liga.

The project was announced less than 72 hours ago but it seems the Super League dream for these owners is already in tatters.
