Whatever the case is for you, it’s always great to rediscover that our love for Inter Milan football has provided us with great players, incredible goals and memorable moments.

One such legendary Inter player to remember is — Samuel Eto’o.

Eto’o’s first days at Inter

In the summer of 2009, Inter made a deal with Barcelona. The deal involved an exchange of two players — Samuel Eto’o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Inter’s President and Manager at the time, Massimo Moratti and Jose Mourinho were very interested in Eto’o, and both of them believed he’d do great things at the club.

He proved them right.

Eto’o made his debut for Inter in a Supercoppa Italiana final match against Lazio. Although Lazio came away with the win, Eto’o was certainly impressed, and he netted his first goal for the club in that match.

In the following matches in Serie A, Eto’o would show his brilliance by scoring against several opponents and providing numerous assists.

His first goal from open play in Serie A was spectacular, coming in a tough match against Parma. That goal was an indicator of the supreme quality Samuel Eto’o possessed.

By the end of 102 competitive appearances for Inter Milan, Eto’o had scored 53 goals for Inter Milan. You can watch all of them here.

Eto’o scored against several big teams, including Roma, Juventus, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich. Many people — especially Chelsea FC fans — will remember Eto’o’s last-minute dagger in the 2009/10 Champions League Round of 16.

Eto’o’s Titles at Inter

Samuel Eto’o was part of the famous Inter squad that pulled off a treble in the 2009/10 football season. Eto’o lifted the Scudetto, the Champions League Cup, and the Coppa Italia. In 2010, he lifted the Coppa Italia for the second time in a row, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Supercoppa Italiana. His performance in his two-year spell at Inter was the stuff of legends. Eto’o has stated that the team was remarkably united under Mourinho, and that was their biggest strength.

Samuel Eto’o was a player endowed with energy and versatility. Under Mourinho, he mainly played as a striker, a winger, and an attacking midfielder. He even played as a right-back in a Champions League match against Barcelona after Thiago Motta’s red card left a gap in that position. Eto’o was so good for Inter that he was often involved in the “best striker in the world” conversations.

He eventually left Inter in 2011, but he will always be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever play for the Nerazzurri.
