Daniele Adani feels that Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco and Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso are “modern wingbacks” whom Italy can “build on.”

Speaking to Calciomercato.it, the former Inter defender praised the two regular starting wingbacks for the Azzurri.

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti has been rebuilding the Azzurri squad over the last twelve months.

And one of the key areas of the team for the former Inter, Napoli, and Roma coach has been in wide areas.

Italy have focused a lot of their play around their fullbacks or wingbacks.

More often than not, Spalletti has used a formation that mirrors the 3-5-2 shape that Inter play. That is not a coincidence, as the Italy coach has admitted that he’s been using a “block” of Nerazzurri players.

Adani: “Dimarco & Cambiaso Modern Wingbacks, Italy Can Build On Them”

Inter wingback Dimarco was very much been reprising his role from his club with the national team.

The 27-year-old has found his very best form over the last couple seasons.

Having cut his teeth in loan spells with teams like Parma and Hellas Verona, Dimarco has earned a starting spot for club and country.

Dimarco has provided assists, goals, and a highly impressive passing range from the left flank.

Meanwhile, Cambiaso has become a key part of Juventus’s starting eleven.

Cambiaso had emerged as a versatile talent at Genoa. He has shown that he can play on either the left or right flank, which he does regularly for Juventus.

But for Italy, Cambiaso mainly plays on the right, opposite Dimarco.

Former Inter defender Adani said that “Italy can build on Dimarco, Cambiaso, and other players.”

He noted that “The two of them have a natural understanding.”

“Because they’re both modern players. They do very well at interpreting the wingback role.”

Adani called Dimarco and Cambiaso “eclectic” players. “They have quality in possession, they can score goals, and make assists.”
