Former Nerazzurri defender Daniele Adani feels that at the moment Inter Milan are suffering from “too much self-confidence.”
The former defender gave his thoughts on some of the Nerazzurri’s struggles to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter have not exactly had a disastrous start to the season by any means.
But there have already been obvious cracks appearing in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title defense.
The most obvious was a loss to city rivals AC Milan in the derby.
That was the first loss to the Rossoneri after six straight wins in the fixture. And it came in a match where Inter were widely considered the favourites given early season form.
But that hasn’t been the only setback for Inter so far this campaign.
The Nerazzurri may have won their last two matches in Serie A. They have beaten Udinese and Torino to bounce back from their loss in the derby.
However, these were not exactly the most convincing of performances.
Inter conceded twice against both the Friulani and the Granata, needing three goals to win. And both goals that Torino scored actually came at a numerical disadvantage after a red card.
In the view of former Inter defender Adani, the Nerazzurri’s problems have been “A question of application.”
“Too much self-confidence causes the level of focus to drop,” the former defender diagnosed.
“And this often happens with a big team. Particularly when they’ve already won and need to prove it all over again.”
“Particularly with a title win last season’s,” Adani argued.
“That was close to perfection,” he said of Inter’s title triumph last campaign.
“It’s not easy to keep staying at full speed,” the former defender observed. “But Inter have to do so, because the race at the top of the table is fierce.”
