Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has been tipped to start against Man City in UCL final ahead of Edin Dzeko by ex-Nerazzurri coach Marco Tardelli.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, via FCInterNews, the former Inter coach and former Juventus and Nerazzurri midfielder suggested that Lukaku’s partnership with Lautaro Martinez would make him the ideal striker to start against City.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has confirmed that he has not yet decided which of Lukaku or Dzeko will start against City.

It looks all but certain that Martinez will start the match. However, the identity of the Argentine’s partner in attack remains a mystery.

On the one hand, Dzeko has started every knockout match to date. The Bosnian has proved a reliable option in the big matches. Therefore, he could be given the chance against his old team City.

On the other hand, Lukaku’s recent form is hard to ignore. The Belgian has put a frustrating and injury-hit season behind him to show his best in Serie A recently.

Accordingly, many view Lukaku as the better option to start in this weekend’s final.

From the perspective of former Inter coach Tardelli, the question of which striker pairs better with Martinez is an important consideration too.

Tardelli: Romelu Lukaku Shoudl Start vs Man City

The former coach and midfielder stated “I think Lukaku works a little more for Lautaro than to Dzeko.”

“That’s why I think he’s the right player to deploy from the first minute,” he continued.

“The choice will obviously be Simone Inzaghi’s,” former coach Tardelli observed. “The last few training sessions will be decisive in knowing who is going to play.”

“But the Belgian seems to me more suited to supporting the Argentine,” he suggested.

Inter will kick off against City in the final in Istanbul on Saturday evening at 21.00 CET.
