Former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga has said that he had no doubts that Inter striker Romelu Lukaku would not be fit in time for the match against AS Roma, according to a report in the Italian media.

As was said by Walter Zenga whilst speaking on his youtube channel, via FCInternews, he never had any faith that the Belgian striker would be back from his thigh injury in time to face Jose Mourinho’s Giallorossi side.

He explained that incorrect recovery times are often stated for muscle injuries these days and that is why many thought that the Chelsea loanee could be fit for Saturday evening’s match.

“Inter are preparing to face two tough teams in four days, Roma and Barcelona. Romelu Lukaku will not be recovered, but I honestly had no doubt that he could not recover from a muscle injury so quickly.

“Nowadays with muscle injuries there is a tendency to give inappropriate recovery times, because now you play every three days and you have to be absolutely careful.”

Another key player who will be injured for this match is Marcelo Brozovic who picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Croatia. Walter Zenga feels calm about it because it means that Kristjan Asllani can get a run of games in the team.

“The Nerazzurri have bought his alter ego, so I think and hope that Kristjan Asllani will play. And if he doesn’t play well, no problem because at Empoli he showed he has the qualities to play in the midfield and at San Siro in the Coppa Italia he played as a trequartista.

“I would give confidence to him as well as to Federico Dimarco on the left: he is in good shape, he is boosted by the matches with the national team and therefore I would use him instead of Robin Gosens, who Simone Inzaghi will have to manage well given the many commitments of these days.”
