Youri Djorkaeff has joked that Olivier Giroud joined the wrong team in the city given his compatriot’s decision to become an AC Milan player in 2021.

Giroud is having a fantastic 2022 with Milan as he scored a number of crucial goals earlier in the year to help the Rossoneri win the Scudetto after an 11-year wait, and his scoring touch has continued into the new campaign.

It has earned him a recall for the French national team where he has two goals at the current World Cup and has started three of Les Bleus’ four games thus far, drawing level with Thierry Henry’s record as their all-time top scorer.

Djorkaeff – a former Inter striker and now FIFA Senior Football Advisor – has given an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he spoke about the French national team and in particular about Giroud.

“Olivier started in Grenoble, like me. When he arrived in Milan, he wrote to me for advice on the city. I told him that everything was fine… but he chose the wrong team,” he said.
