Inter have helped transform Romelu Lukaku into a truly devastating striker, according to Christian Vieri.

Lukaku scored 21 goals en route to the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title this season, confirming his reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific centre-forwards.

Vieri has never made any secret of his love for the Belgian – who has warned Inter’s rivals he will return for next season with a ‘killer mentality’ – and he doubled down on his praise for Lukaku again last night.

Speaking on Bobo TV, his Twitch TV channel, Inter’s former forward argued: “Lukaku had already scored 250 goals in his career before coming to Inter, but he didn’t train well in England.

“He’s added muscle since arriving in Italy and has been a devastating and unstoppable striker for the last two years.

“Inter wouldn’t have won the title without Lukaku; he’s more complete than Mauro Icardi, who was a pure finisher.

“Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are one of the three or four best strike partnerships in Europe.”

Inter secured their 19th scudetto on Sunday after they beat Crotone and Atalanta were held to a draw by Sassuolo.

Antonio Conte’s side have wrapped up the title with four games to spare and Vieri felt there were several secrets behind the Nerazzurri’s success.

“Inter’s defence showed real strength and responsibility in the second half of the season,” Vieri argued.

“They were always hard and tough, you have to give the defenders real credit because they were fundamental.”

Conte has split opinion at Inter for the style of play he is adopting, but Vieri wished to defend him from his harshest critics.

“His Inter side play good football, they’ll never play like Barcelona and Bayern Munich but I’ve seen improvements since last year,” he added.

“Conte dominated the league this season, he didn’t let a single thing slip after overtaking AC Milan at the top.”
