Inter will be able to put their hands on the Scudetto if city rivals AC Milan are unable to beat Roma this coming weekend, according to former Inter defender Fulvio Collovati.

After their Milan derby triumph on Sunday over the Rossoneri, the Nerazzurri moved four points clear of their second-placed city rivals at the top of the Serie A standings.

Stefano Pioli’s side are in for a tough test against the Giallorossi this weekend, while Inter face the ‘easier’ task of playing host to Genoa – although Antonio Conte is desperate to stop anyone underestimating Davide Ballardini’s side.

“Inter have their hands on the Scudetto, especially if AC Milan fail to beat Roma,” Collovati admitted in an interview with pianetagenoa1893.net.

“An opportunity like this will never happen again, but let’s not forget, however, the ‘crazy’ part of the Nerazzurri club.”

Collovati, who famously swapped AC Milan for Inter in 1982 and soent four years with the Nerazzurri, then went on to discuss Inter as a team.

He pointed out that Conte has found a certain balance after the shaky start to the season from a defensive point of view.

“Inter are the strongest team in the league,” Collovati argued.

“They have physicality, they are mentally strong, have a strong midfield with Nicolo Barella and an attacking partnership in Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez who score more than half of their goals.

“Conte has found the right balance after conceding too many goals at the start of the season.

“In the last six matches in fact, the Nerazzurri have only conceded one goal with the same three-man defence and Achraf Hakimi and Ivan Perisic on the flanks.”

Hakimi will be suspended for Sunday’s match at San Siro, however, after picking up his fifth booking of the league season against AC Milan last weekend.
