Ex-Inter Defender Daniele Adani: “Antonio Conte Wanted Lukaku & Dzeko Together But Inter Want Dybala Today”

Former Inter defender Daniele Adani believes that if Edin Dzeko is to remain at Inter next season, then he and Romelu Lukaku could form an attacking duo that had been a dream of former coach Antonio Conte.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Sport, Adani noted that the Bosnian had been a target for the current Tottenham Hotspur coach whilst Lukaku was also at the club, although he thinks that the Nerazzurri could sacrifice him in order to sign Paulo Dybala.

In a somewhat convoluted sequence, Conte left the club last summer and then Lukaku followed him out the exit door later in the transfer window, whilst Dzeko was signed from Roma to bolster the attack following the Belgian’s exit.

Now, Dzeko is at the club and Lukaku has just made the shock return on loan following last summer’s big money move to Chelsea, but Conte will not be able to test out the duo, as he is currently in charge of Tottenham in the Premier League.

In any event, Adani is not certain that Dzeko will even remain at Inter long enough to play alongside Lukaku as the former coach had wanted, but he noted the irony of the scenario.

“Dzeko is an intelligent footballer who knows how to do many things,” he said, “already Conte’s idea a few years back was to try and sign both he and Lukaku.”

“Dzeko has the ability to work within the team and open up spaces,” he continued, “whereas Lukaku wants the ball played to his feet, and only later to provide service to teammates.”

“However, I believe that Inter’s goal, after some players leave, is to have a player like Dybala sign,” he added.
