Former Inter and Atalanta defender Andrea Mandorlini has said that he hopes Inter wins the Scudetto again but feel Atalanta can have an effect on the race, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with FCInter1908, Andrea Mandorlini discussed the four teams that are currently involved in the Serie A title race but settled on Inter as his favoured Champion.

“I hope, as a former Nerazzurri, that Inter win. It seems to me that, however, Atalanta too can have their say. Pioli’s Milan will undermine Inter until the end. And keep an eye on Napoli: together with Simone Inzaghi’s team, it is the collective that – up to now – has shown the best.”

Speaking about the Supercoppa Italiana final with Juventus that Inter won on Wednesday evening, Andrea Mandorlini said that he felt the Nerazzurri deserved to win.

“Inter deserved to win the match. Maybe Juve could have won on penalties, but for the number of opportunities created, the Nerazzurri deserved it.”

He also played down the case against Leonardo Bonucci who was in a confrontation with an Inter secretary when the winning goal was scored.

“Inter-Juventus is a very important match, the adrenaline is at a thousand. It does not seem to me that there are the conditions for mounting a case.”

Andrea Mandorlini feels that Inter are a lot less defensive now under Simone Inzaghi than they were under Antonio Conte.

“With Inzaghi Inter are much less defensive. In addition, it seems to me a more calm and mentally free team. From a physical point of view, moreover, it gives me the feeling of always being dominant.”

Atalanta host Inter on Sunday evening and Andrea Mandorlini feels that it will be a match with relevance to the championship fight.

“It will be a championship challenge. Atalanta are very well physically. Congratulations to Gasperini: with his humility he built a masterpiece. Atalanta are very difficult to beat.”
