Ex-Inter Chairman Ernesto Pellegrini: “We Will Try To Convince Milan Mayor Sala To Keep San Siro While Building New Stadium” | OneFootball

Former Inter Chairman Ernesto Pellegrini believes that the San Siro should be kept standing in addition to a new stadium being built in Milan.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FanPage.it, Pellegrini gave the view that Inter and AC Milan should both work to keep the existing San Siro and work towards a new stadium rather than demolishing the existing structure as part of construction.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have been pressing on with their project to build a new stadium in Milan, with a key part of their proposal being the demolition of the San Siro to make way for it.

This aspect of the plan has attracted opposition, however, with many believing that the San Siro should be preserved and that the existing stadium should be renovated rather than an entirely new one built in its place.

However, Pellegrini is of the view that the best course of action would be to build a new stadium while also keeping the San Siro standing.

“San Siro is a national monument that cannot be demolished,” he said. “It must be kept alive, and then we’ll consider how to use it.”

He added that “If Inter and Milan believe they must build a stadium for themselves, they can. Milan would have two stadiums as many cities do, so now we will try to convince Mayor Beppe Sala on this.”

“I live there,” he said of the area. “I open the window of my house and I see the Meazza.”

“I don’t see what inconveniences having two stadiums could create,” he addeed, “Inter and Milan could play in one, while the other would have events and concerts.”
