Ex-England international names one club he feels could sign Chelsea’s star man | OneFootball

Former England international Michael Owen has named the one club he believes could sign Cole Palmer from Chelsea.

Palmer joined the Blues on deadline day last summer in a deal worth £42.5m from boyhood club Manchester City, and made a bigger impact than anyone expected.

The 22-year-old lit up the Premier League as he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists, which saw him named Premier League Young Player of the Year, and rewarded with a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

Owen reveals club he feels could sign Palmer

Palmer is currently preparing for Saturday’s quarter final against Switzerland, but has had to make do with a bit part role under Gareth Southgate so far.

He was completely overlooked for the first two games before making an impact off the bench against Slovenia and in the last 16 against Slovakia.

After the Euros Palmer will have a well earned break before joining up with Chelsea for pre-season under Enzo Maresca, who he knows well from his time at the City academy.

Owen feels there’s one club who could sign Palmer from Chelsea.

Palmer will play a key role for Chelsea next season as they look to get back into the Champions League, and Owen feels he will stay at the club for the foreseeable future unless one club were to try and make a move for the England international.

“For me, it’s all about if there’s a massive discrepancy in terms of one of the clubs being bigger and if you’ve got more chance of winning the league or the Champions League at another club,” Owen told AceOdds.

“People tend to always want to better themselves in life. I mean, it’s not just footballers. Most people would try to better themselves.

“He went to Chelsea because he wasn’t getting a game at Man City. If he had the opportunity to go to a team that was going to give him more of a chance of winning the league or Champions League, then that’s when it becomes interesting.

“As things stand, are Liverpool more likely to win the Premier League than Chelsea? I would say so but it’s not like Liverpool players are guaranteed to win the title.

“But listen, if Man City came back in for him and wanted to spend £100m, then that’s a different question. But I think he’d probably stay put at the moment.”

It’s hard to imagine Palmer wanting to leave but the longer the club remain out of the Champions League the more realistic the prospect of key players wanting to leave becomes.
