Ex-Celtic winger Shaun Maloney’s move to Dundee is off

Former Celtic winger Shaun Maloney looked most likely to be named the new manager of Dundee, but it appears that the deal has collapsed. Mark McGhee had taken over midway through the season and had failed to keep the Dens Park side in the Premiership. Kevin Thompson, Jack Ross and Maloney were the names touted with the role.

After weeks of speculation, BBC Sport reports that Maloney will not be the new manager after talks broke down. The 39-year-old was sacked by Hibs after just four months in the hot seat, a bizarre decision by Ron Gordon but one that will have been a blow to the ex-Aston Villa and Wigan winger.

Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is heading up the recruitment drive at Dens in his role as Technical Director but the player he re-signed for Celtic back in 2008, will not be joining him in The City of Discovery. Maloney has been linked with a move back to Belgium and will likely have a number of other options as he looks to bounce back from his first stint in management.
