Former Blue Tony Cascarino believes Nicolas Jackson’s team-mates will start losing faith in him if he keeps missing big chances.

Jackson missed three huge opportunities in the FA Cup semi final against Manchester City at Wembley, a game Mauricio Pochettino’s side could have easily won.

Instead, Bernardo Silva scored the only goal of the game in the 84th minute to consign Chelsea to another season without silverware.

The Senegal international has had a good debut season at Stamford Bridge, scoring 13 goals in all competitions, with 10 coming in the Premier League.

He’s shown he has good qualities in his game, with the 22-year-old’s link up and hold up play receiving plaudits, as well as his ability to stretch teams with his pace.

However, Cascarino believes Jackson’s team-mates will start to lose confidence in the forward if he continues to miss more chances.

“Yeah, you have got to stay with him, you have got to give him a chance”, Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“What I would say, (Darwin) Nunez has got a similar problem, although his numbers are better. Timo Werner had that problem when he came over to Chelsea from Germany. He couldn’t buy a goal and he missed a lot of chances.

“He is, what, still 22, 23 now, Nicolas Jackson, he is still a very young man. He has got good qualities in his game, and that is stretching teams, pace, and getting chances.

“It’s a skill getting chances. He is going to have to be clinical because no manager or even his teammates will feel confident about him getting goals if you miss more than you are scoring.

“That is just fact.”

The former Villareal man will be hoping to put those missed chances at Wembley behind him as Chelsea prepare to take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Tuesday night.

Jackson and Moises Caicedo must both avoid being booked against the Gunners, otherwise they will serve a two match suspension.

The Blues head to north London ninth in the Premier League, three points behind Newcastle and Manchester United in the battle for the Europa League.

A win, which is one of the Blue’s games in hand would see Mauricio Pochettino’s men draw level on points with their rivals.
