A former member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week directed something of a jibe at Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr.
This comes amid the suggestion that the Brazilian still has work to do to establish himself as one of world football’s very best.
Wide-man Vinícius, for his part, is of course fresh off another scintillating campaign on the books of the aforementioned Real Madrid.
All told, in 39 appearances across all competitions, the 23-year-old racked up 35 direct goal contributions.
Not only that, but Vinícius was hailed for stepping up to the plate when it mattered most, shining in a number of high-profile fixtures en route to Los Blancos’ domestic and European double.
Such endeavours have seen Vini take his place front and centre in the Ballon d’Or chatter, with the explosive attacker currently considered the bookmakers’ favourite to scoop the award.
And yet, despite all of this, one individual who remains largely unimpressed when it comes to Vinícius’ talents comes in the form of Arturo Vidal.
Speaking during an interview with Argentine streamer Davoo Xeneize, as cited by Diario AS, on Wednesday, ex-Barcelona midfielder Vidal was asked for his take on Real Madrid’s attacking talisman.
And the Chilean turned heads with his response, in explaining:
“Vinícius Jr. is not a top 10 player in the world for me. He is still missing a lot [from his game].”
