Lionel Messi has seen talks over his future dominate the football headlines. Whether it’s rumors of him remaining at Paris Saint-Germain or possibly joining MLS side Inter Miami, there’s no shortage of information on the 35-year-old’s future.

Another scenario could be that Messi returns to Argentina and plays for his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys. With so much uncertainty surrounding the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, Mario Alberto Kempes spoke about the possibility of seeing Messi at Newell’s.

“I don’t know if [Messi] would withstand the pressure,” Kempes told TNT Sports on Friday. “He’s used to Europe; the people are different. But in Argentina, it would be crazy.”

It will be interesting to see what the Argentine decides to do with his future because if he wants to be part of the 2024 Copa America squad, then it would be in his best interest to remain with PSG.

Nonetheless, if Messi sees the end of his international career, then perhaps considering a return to Argentina could be in the cards. But if Newell’s wants to get in the race for a romantic reunion with Messi, they’ll need to be convincing.
