Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will not be risked against Hellas Verona this weekend, with Kristjan Asllani to start the Serie A clash.
This according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Calhanoglu will be back for the Champions League clash with RB Leipzig next week.
Inter midfielder Calhanoglu underwent tests with the Nerazzurri’s medical staff today.
The exams determined that the Turkish international has not suffered a serious injury in spite of having been forced off during his national team’s match against Wales last week.
Therefore, Calhanoglu will not be sidelined for long.
However, that does not mean that Calhanoglu will rush right back to the pitch.
The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder just returned to training today. Naturally, he will need a bit of time to get back to his best.
The big question has been whether or not Calhanoglu will be able to come right back in time for Inter’s first match back from the international break.
The Nerazzurri travel to Verona on Saturday afternoon.
And according to the Gazzetta, that will be too soon for Calhanoglu.
Naturally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will hardly want to risk Calhanoglu in that match if he is not at his best.
And as things stand, it is just too soon for Calhanoglu to return.
Therefore, Calhanoglu will instead be back for Inter’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig next Tuesday. He should be ready to start in that match.
But against Verona, the Gazzetta report, it will be Kristjan Asllani in the Inter starting eleven.
The Albanian is Calhanoglu’s main backup in the Inter squad.
Asllani was not able to start in Calhanoglu’s stead prior to the international break. He was out with a knee problem.
Therefore, the likes of Piotr Zielinski and Nicolo Barella played in the holding midfield role.
However, Asllani will be ready to start for Inter on Saturday evening.
