Former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini feels that Inter showed their determination as well as tactical acumen and squad depth to defeat Venezia in Serie A this evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the 44-year-old hailed the impact of Edin Dzeko to win his team all three points, as well as the substitutions made by coach Simone Inzaghi which changed the game.

Inter went behind to Venezia and even after an equalizer from Nicolo Barella it was clear that no result could be taken for granted against dogged and organized opposition.

The Nerazzurri controlled most of the possession but looked somewhat laboured as they tried to create telling chances, and Inzaghi decided to shuffle his pack by bringing on a number of players.

In the end, it was one of those substitutions who provided the excellent cross for the late winner, in the form of Denzel Dumfries, and it was Dzeko who headed the Dutchman’s fine lofted ball home to rescue the points.

“Inter laid down a marker today and showed their determination,” Ambrosini said. “Credit to Inzaghi’s substitutions,” he went on, “and Dzeko’s goal was decisive, but Inter really showed that they wanted this win.”
