Former AC Milan and Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Montella feels that when the Serie A season resumes following the World Cup break, it will be a different-looking title race.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Montella gave the view that things will get more competitive after the top teams come back having regrouped during the World Cup break.

Heading into the World Cup break, there could be few doubts that Napoli had been the outstanding team in the Italian top flight.

While all of Inter, AC Milan, and Juventus as well as the likes of Roma, Lazio, and Atalanta had their ups and downs, the Partenopei looked imperious for much of the campaign so far.

However, the World Cup break presents a unique opportunity for the teams chasing Napoli.

After the lengthy break in the season, the complexion of the race could change as all the momentum from before the break dissipates.

“It will be like an entirely new season starts up in January,” Montella predicted.

“It will be very competitive, there will be a lot of pitfalls for Napoli.”
