The last two seasons have been pretty uninteresting in terms of the race for the LaLiga title.
But there is a sense that things could be different in 2019/20.
Holders Barcelona will no doubt mount a strong challenge for what would be their 27th Spanish top flight title and their third in a row.
But after all their investment this summer, Real Madrid are expected to run their fierce rivals close.
Atlético should be considered the outside favourites.
Scenes in Mallorca! They've been promoted to La Liga after winning their play-off 3-2 on aggregate 🍾–
Mallorca are back in the Primera División after a six-year absence thanks to back-to-back promotions in the last two seasons.
Last season’s Segunda División champions Osasuna will be playing top flight football for the first time since 2016/17.
As will Granada, who finished runners up in the second tier last year.
It could be tricky for all three promoted teams to stay up, while Real Valladolid, Levante and Alavés could all get sucked into a relegation battle too if they aren’t careful.
After their super 2018/19 season yielded a 5th-placed finish, Getafe will be playing Europa League football this term and it will be interesting to see how their small squad copes.
Valencia are also one to watch following the summer arrival of Maxi Gómez from Celta Vigo.
And it will be fascinating to see whether new Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui can banish the demons of his disastrous stint at Real Madrid.
It’s hard to look past Real Madrid as the winners of the transfer window following the arrivals of Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy and co.
Barcelona’s summer business has also made them a more fearsome proposition, and it remains to be seen whether Neymar will be joining the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong at Camp Nou.
It’s been a summer of change at Atlético, who have made a couple of particularly eye-catching signings in the form of João Félix and Kieran Trippier.
And Real Betis may well have bagged the bargain of the window with their €19m capture of Nabil Fekir.
