Bayern Munich had to wait until the final day of the season last year to clinch the Bundesliga title.

Rivals Borussia Dortmund have responded with a strong transfer window, while a third of the league has a new head coach.

Here’s all you need to know about 2019/20.

Who are the title contenders?

Obviously Bayern Munich, who are going for an incredible eighth title in a row. But they won’t have it easy.

Borussia Dortmund have spent brilliantly this summer after finishing just two points behind last season. RB Leipzig could also be very close if things start well under Julian Nagelsmann.

Can you tell me something about the promoted clubs?

Union Berlin will play in the Bundesliga for the first time ever after winning the Relegation Play-Off against VfB Stuttgart in May.

Last season’s 2.Bundesliga winners 1.FC Köln are back in town and with a new manager – they appointed Achim Beierlorzer back in May after sealing promotion.

And the third side – SC Paderborn 07 – were relegated to the fourth tier in German football just two years ago, only to stay up thanks to a technicality and then earn back-to-back promotions!

Who’s going down?

Unfortunately, new boys Union Berlin and Paderborn will struggle to survive.

Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Augsburg are likely to be fighting it out to avoid the relegation play-off place, with Mainz not far ahead of them.

Are there any other interesting teams?

Borussia Mönchengladbach have appointed Marco Rose as their new boss and you should keep a keen eye on what happens there.

Others have changed their managers too but the Gladbach seem to have made the smartest change.

Werder Bremen play intelligently under Florian Kohfeldt, while SC Freiburg boss Christian Streich continues to perform miracles AND be the best guy in top level football.

And a word for Mainz, who impressed last season with the youngest squad in the league.

Which clubs have done the best business this summer?

Dortmund, but everyone knows about that by now, so let’s move on to some others.

Leverkusen‘s deals to sign Kerem Demirbay, Moussa Diaby and Nadiem Amiri look very exciting indeed.

Xavier Schlager and Kevin Mbabu could be inspired deals by VfL Wolfsburg.
