HISTORY IN THE COMPETITION

The U18 Premier League Cup was introduced to Academy teams in the 2017/18 season. Five finals have taken place since then – with the 2020/21 season cut short due to COVID-19.

City and Chelsea have won the competition the most, both lifting the trophy twice.

City’s first triumph in the final of the competition came at the end of the 2018/19 campaign after a narrow 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Back-to-back trophy wins completed another impressive season for the young boys in blue who lifted the U18 Premier League Cup trophy in 2019/20 after a thrilling 6-0 victory over Stoke City at the Joie Stadium.

And on Tuesday, City’s Under-18s could make history to become the first club to win the competition three times, which would also continue our 100%-win streak in the competition’s final.

THOUGHTS FROM THE BOSS

Ben Wilkinson previewed the final last week as his team work on final preparations ahead of the trip to Salford.

And the Under-18 head coach, who is looking to win the competition as head coach since he took charge of the squad in August 2020, has urged his players to focus on playing their best against a tough United side.

“It’s a really good Under-18s fixture, playing in a final against United,” said Wilkinson. It’s a top fixture so we’re really looking forward to the game and I’m hoping the lads can go and show the best versions of themselves in terms of their performance.”

DADA-MASCOLL PREVIEW

Defensive midfielder Isaiah Dada-Mascoll marked his return from a lengthy injury with a positive performance in our 1-0 win over Bristol City in our semi-final FA Youth Cup clash.

And as he continues his return to full fitness following almost seven months on the side line, the 17-year-old is also hoping to play a part in the U18 Premier League Cup final.

Read his interview here where he spoke about his return from injury as well as City's 'fire and desire' to win both finals.
