Everything You Need To Know About André Silva To Benfica

Despite his staunch devotion to FC Porto, O Jogo reports that RB Leipzig forward André Silva has found himself as one of Benfica’s top choices to replace up-and-coming Portuguese superstar, Gonçalo Ramos.

The 27-year-old Portuguese international, who moved to Leipzig from Eintracht Frankfurt for €23 million (£20 million) in 2021, has had an underwhelming spell at the German outfit, having logged 43 goal contributions in 95 appearances for the club as they’re main talisman.

This season specifically, he’s played 44 matches, only scoring nine goals within that time. Due to the disappointment of the transfer, Leipzig have decided to sell the Silva at a loss, for a reported fee of less than €20 million (£17 million).

Benfica, a club in need of striking options for next season, have always kept Silva as a potential transfer in previous seasons, but a committed loyalty to FC Porto and a high wage have made that a difficult prospect. This summer, those same issues plague this transfer story, as Silva earns a total of €4 million (£3.5 million) per year which exceeds Benfica’s salary cap.

Though many feel a move for Silva back to Portugal would help reinvigorate his confidence, it’s up to the player on whether or not he thinks he can take his services to a Portuguese club that isn’t FC Porto.
