Cole Palmer says Enzo Maresca is building “something special” at Chelsea after guiding them to the Club World Cup trophy.
The Blues beat PSG 3-0 in the final to win the first edition of the revamped Club World Cup tournament.
Palmer struck twice in the first half, finishing low into the bottom corner on both occasions, before setting up Joao Pedro to add a third before the break.
It is the second trophy Maresca has won at the club having also guided Chelsea to the Conference League in May.
And Palmer says there is more to come from his side, and believes their Club World Cup triumph was a message for the doubters.
“It’s a great feeling,” he told DAZN after the game.
“Even better because everyone doubted us before the game, we knew that. To put a fight on like we did, it’s good.
“The gaffer put a great gameplan out. He knew where the space was going to be. He tried to free me up as much as possible and I just had to repay him and score some goals.
“He’s building something special, something important. Everyone’s talked a lot of s**t about us all season but I feel like we’re going in the right direction.”
Maresca also lauded the efforts of his players, saying: “For me, we won the game in the first 10 minutes.
“We set the tempo and we were very good at pressing them. The conditions made it hard to keep going but the boys did well.
“Of course I am very excited [about the future] but I’m more excited that we have three weeks off.”
