The January transfer window is well underway and Bristol Rovers may see some of their squad depart.

The Pirates have already seen two players leave this month, as Lamare Bogard and Ryan Woods have returned to parent clubs, Aston Villa and Hull City respectively. The pair made eight league starts each in the middle of the park for Bristol Rovers, and now leave a need for central midfielders in the squad.

In the summer, 12 fresh faces were brought in by then manager, Joey Barton, and now the current boss, Matt Taylor, will have targets of his own in his first transfer window with the club.

Bristol Rovers fans can probably expect to see little movement in terms of outgoings this month, following the departures of two loanee midfielders, and due to the fact that Taylor will be focused on reinforcements. Nevertheless, there are a select few who could be departing the Memorial Stadium in the coming weeks, as Football League World discusses each of them.

Chris Martin

The experienced striker has found his name in a few headlines this week as he is receiving interest from elsewhere. There has been talk about his future at the club for a while though, as his contract is set to expire at the end of this month.

According to The Mirror, Chris Martin has been linked with a shocking move to local rivals, Bristol City in the Championship, for whom he played 88 games in the past. Elsewhere, the 35-year-old has been linked with a return to Queens Park Rangers, who are in desperate need of a striker.

Martin left QPR in the summer to join Bristol Rovers, but just six months later it seems that QPR are looking at him as a short-term solution for the second half of their season.

The striker has scored eight league goals for Bristol Rovers this season, but sadly he looks to be leaving at the end of the month when his contract expires. Whether he makes the step back up to the Championship is yet to be confirmed.

As per Bristol Live, Matt Taylor expects that Trevor Clarke could leave the club by the end of the January transfer window, with the left-back having an offer to remain in his homeland of Ireland.

Clarke spent January to November on loan at Shamrock Rovers, and it is looking likely that he will return there and permanently leave Bristol Rovers. He last played for the club in December 2022 in a 1-1 draw away to Bolton Wanderers.

Matt Hall

Bristol Rovers currently have three first-team goalkeepers on the books and may look to loan one out for the second half of the season. Jed Ward spent the first half of the season on loan at National League Wealdstone and has been The Pirates' backup goalkeeper for the last few weeks in League One.

This may continue for the remainder of the season, which would see Matt Hall get very little first-team opportunities. A loan to the National League makes a lot of sense for the 20-year-old, who signed in the summer from Southampton.
