Everton striker Neal Maupay (26) has spoken glowingly of formative club OGC Nice, during an interview with Gym Tonic.

Maupay came through the ranks at Nice and went on to make 53 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals. The Frenchman left the club for Saint-Étienne back in the summer of 2015 and has since made a career for himself in England, joining Brentford before later playing for Brighton and Hove Albion.

Last summer, Maupay joined Everton for around €12m, but since arriving at Goodison Park, has only scored one goal in 29 appearances. Whilst it remains unclear what the future holds for Maupay, the Frenchman spoke glowing of Les Aiglons during an interview on the Nice-Matin show Gym Tonic.

Asked if he would be keen on a return to Le Gym, Maupay replied: “Nice is my home. I love the city, I love the club.”  Whilst the answer was largely non-commital, it is clear that Maupay, who is from the region, isn’t closed to the idea of returning to the club where he began his career.
