Everton’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea on Sunday has been postponed due to COVID-19 cases and injuries in the home camp.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news this afternoon. The decision has been made following discussions between the two clubs and The Football Association. A new date for the rearranged fixture will be agreed in due course.

The postponement comes after both teams’ opening games of 2022 were called off last weekend. Everton were scheduled to travel to The Banks’s Stadium to face Aston Villa while Chelsea were set to open the year against Tottenham Hotspur at Kingsmeadow. The postponement of the game at Walton Hall Park is the first in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship this weekend.

Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Arsenal now have another opportunity to move seven points clear of Chelsea, although third-placed Tottenham Hotspur have the chance to keep the pressure on their North London rivals by beating West Ham United at The Hive on Sunday.

Everton could drop a place from ninth to tenth should Aston Villa defeat Manchester City on Saturday. The Blue Girls will now have at least one game in hand on the teams around them other than West Ham United.
