Everton would “love to sign” Anthony Elanga from Manchester United, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT.

Elanga, who has been dubbed a “joy” to watch in the past, has been linked with an Old Trafford departure and Romano hinted he could leave Manchester in the January window.

Everton transfer news – Anthony Elanga

In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook revealed that Everton are “very keen” on pursuing Elanga in the January window.

It comes after Romano told his 13.5 million Twitter followers that Everton are one of the clubs exploring a January deal for the Swedish international.

However, the struggling Premier League outfit would likely have to fend off Champions League opposition for Elanga’s signature, according to Romano, with Borussia Dortmund also showing interest.

Explaining the decision would ultimately be left up to United, Romano outlined any deal would likely be a loan move until the end of the season.

Elanga, who is valued at £35 million according to the CIES Football Observatory, broke on to the scene in 2021, but has struggled to nail down a starting position under new boss Erik ten Hag.

What has Romano said about Elanga to Everton?

Indicating the player would be open to a move away from Old Trafford, Romano told GMS in an interview that Everton were still keeping tabs on the winger.

On Elanga’s potential departure, Romano said: “For Anthony Elanga, Everton are still interested.

“They would love to sign the player, as would Borussia Dortmund. So these two clubs are interested.”

Would Elanga be a worthwhile signing for Everton?

Pacey, direct and with an eye for goal, Elanga might just be what Everton need to claw themselves out of a relegation scrap.

Former United great Bryan Robson labelled Elanga as the “fastest player in United’s squad” during their most recent pre-season tour, with online database Speed SDB ranking his top speed over 21 miles per hour.

Despite this, Elanga has struggled for minutes under ten Hag this season, notching up just 18 appearances in all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Of those 18 games, Elanga has started just seven, suggesting a move away from United might be necessary to kick-start his career.

While signing for Everton would allow the 20-year-old to remain in the North West, it could be hard for Elanga to turn down a move to the Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund have a track record of developing young forwards, with Elanga’s teammate, Jadon Sancho, having shone for BVB during his four-year stint.

The Bundesliga outfit sit nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich, with a winnable round-of-16 tie against strugglers VFL Bochum in the DFB Pokal to come.

Silverware could be on the cards for Elanga if he moves to Dortmund, whereas with the Toffees, it’s all hands on deck to avoid sinking into the second tier.
