Sean Dyche’s side climbed out of the relegation zone with that success, having taken only one point from their first five matches.

They face a tough test when Newcastle United head to Goodison Park. The game at is the final match on the seven-game Saturday schedule and is due to kick off at 17:30 on Saturday 5th October. It will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

Everton have taken four points from their last two games, with the 2-1 win over Palace following a 1-1 draw at Leicester and their schedule eases up after this tricky fixture with Ipswich, Fulham and Southampton coming up next.

Newcastle head into the Premier League weekend in seventh place after holding champions Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park last week thanks to an Anthony Gordon penalty.

They have one win, one draw and one defeat on their travels so far this season, losing 3-1 to Fulham in their most recent away game.

Everton suffer Branthwaite injury blow again

Everton manager Sean Dyche was delighted to get star centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite back in his line-up for the Crystal Palace game after the 22-year-old had groin surgery in the summer.

The defender’s return helped to inspire his side to their first league win of the campaign, but Dyche is already preparing to be without the key player again.

Branthwaite picked up a thigh injury in training this week and is set for another spell on the sidelines.

The defender’s longer-term future is in doubt too. While Dyche has said he expected to be able to keep hold of Branthwaite, despite reported interest from other clubs including rivals Liverpool, he admitted the situation could change if the club has a change of ownership.

“It’s not a surprise that good players are linked with other clubs. I said in the summer he’d be staying here, he is, so that’s good,” said Dyche.

“Obviously, if the new ownership does go through, that might change things, financially or from the viewpoint of where the club is at and where it wants to go. But we don’t know that yet, so we’ll have to just wait and see.”

With Branthwaite ruled out, Michael Keane is expected to come into the Everton defence to play alongside James Tarkowski, Ashley Young and Vitalii Mykolenko.

Dyche could also make a midfield change with Idrissa Gueye reclaiming a starting spot at the expense of Abdoulaye Doucoure. Gueye had been a regular before missing the last two league games.

A further Everton change could see winger Jack Harrison replacing Jesper Lindstrom, who had a disappointing game against Palace and was taken off at half-time.

Newcastle will again be without their top striker Alexander Isak due to a broken toe, so former Toffee Anthony Gordon could play in an advanced role on his return to Goodison.

Callum Wilson, Lewis Miley, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are still out but Nick Pope, Keiran Trippier and Fabian Schar should be available.

Pope may well start in goal at Everton after Martin Dubravka suffered a knee injury in the EFL Cup win over AFC Wimbledon.
