Everton and Birmingham City meet at Walton Hall Park at lunchtime with both teams still searching for their first points of the new season.

The Blue Girls have suffered defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea so far while Scott Booth’s Birmingham City side have lost against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ahead of kick-off, FAWSL Full-Time have taken a look at the statistics surrounding the game, provided to us by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to this lunchtime’s meeting between Everton and Birmingham City.

Birmingham City are always tough opponents on Merseyside

Despite Everton’s rapid development in the last couple of years, the surprising fact is that The Blue Girls have never beaten Birmingham City at home in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. In seven previous attempts, they have drawn three and lost four.

Last season saw Everton defeat Birmingham City 4-0 on the road but they were held to a hugely frustrating 1-1 draw at Walton Hall Park.

Birmingham City could recreate unwanted history for Everton

Everton go into their latest match having lost their last two home matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. The Merseyside club haven’t lost three-in-a-row at home since April 2019 but the team to inflict that third defeat was Birmingham City who won 3-1 at Everton’s former home of Haig Avenue in Southport.

Both sides are hoping to end long waits for a goal

Both Everton and Birmingham City have failed to score a single goal in their opening two matches in this season’s  Barclays FA Women’s Super League. They are two of just three sides who have failed to score, Reading being the other.

Today’s fixture may not be one packed full of attacking quality with both sides still fine-tuning their play in the final third.

Toni Duggan is at her creative best against Birmingham City

Everton’s Toni Duggan last faced Birmingham City in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in October 2016 with former club Manchester City. Although she only has one goal in 10 appearances against the Blues, she has more assists against them (three) than any other side in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The Birmingham City defence will need to be wary of her threat this lunchtime.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Everton and Birmingham City is scheduled to kick-off at 11.30am and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League.
