Everton have activated an option to extend Abdoulaye Doucouré’s stay with the club for another year.
The French midfielder was previously set to become a free agent his existing deal at Goodison Park expired at the end of this season when.
But the Toffees have triggered a clause in Doucouré’s contract which will now safeguard his future with them for a further 12 months.
“Everton can confirm the club has activated the option to extend Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract until the end of June 2024,” read a club statement.
“The Blues moved to add a further 12 months to the midfielder’s existing deal before the stipulated deadline.
“Doucoure, who has made 94 appearances and has 18 goal involvements (nine goals, nine assists) for Everton since completing a switch from Watford in September 2020, has become a key figure since the arrival of manager Sean Dyche in late January.”
Doucouré has produced a series of vital contributions during Everton’s current battle to preserve their Premier League status, including a brace in the recent 5-1 rout over Brighton.
Sean Dyche’s side sit 17th in the table ahead of a final-day showdown with Bournemouth which could see their 69-year spell in the English top flight ended.
