In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned that Everton talent James Garner is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur. Jacobs said,
“Tottenham appreciate the player, but there’s nothing advanced at this stage,”
Garner is having a decent campaign at Goodison Park after putting in a few impressive displays at the centre of Sean Dyche’s midfield. The English midfielder has made 32 appearances for the Toffees this season, netting a couple of goals and picking up one assist in the process across various competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a good performer for Everton in both halves as he is averaging 2.6 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing possession from midfield after completing 82.5% of his attempted passes in the English First Division (stats via whoscored).
Garner has a contract with Everton which runs out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Dyche would be under no immediate pressure to cash in on him at the end of this campaign.

Garner is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
The English sensation can even shoot the ball with venom from long range and can create some decent plays for others around him in the opponent’s half. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-back if told to do so by his manager.
At the moment, Garner is playing some of the best football of his young career. At 22, he has the potential to become a future star in English football. He is currently one of the first names in Everton boss Sean Dyche’s teamsheet.
Therefore, it makes no sense for the Toffees to cash in on him unless they receive an astronomical offer in the summer. The Merseyside club would be better off keeping hold of him for the long run, especially if they can avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
