Éverton Soares has finally been unveiled as a Flamengo player after logistical issues delayed his transfer from Benfica.

The almost $15m deal was confirmed on 15 June, but it has taken until now for the 26-year-old Brazil international to be paraded by the Rubro-Negro.

Soares, who spent six years in Grêmio’s first team before moving to Portugal, insisted he was aware of the size of the club he has just linked up with.

This was hammered home by the display he witnessed the previous night when Fla dismantled Colombian side Tolima 7-1 in their Copa Libertadores round of 16 tie at the Maracanã.

“I had the privilege of following Flamengo yesterday, very closely,” the attacker said at his press conference.

“I saw the strength of the Nation. I hope to have a victorious cycle. I knew how difficult it was to play against, and now I’m going to experience what it’s like to play in favour.

“I think it’s not my dream. It’s the dream of every great player. Every player dreams of wearing the Flamengo shirt.

“I always had it and today I’m able to fulfil it. I hope to be happy and make new dreams come true.”

Soares’ arrival is especially welcome in light of Bruno Henrique’s recent “multi-ligament” knee injury which is expected to keep him sidelined for up to a year.
