Everton Opinion: Why the Toffees should go all out to sign Morgan Sanson?

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Everton are battling with Wolves for the signing of Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson.

Marseille are willing to listen to offers for some of their players after they failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Sanson, who is one of them, played 33 times for the French club last season, scoring five goals and getting three assists. He has been a regular at Marseille since joining from Montpellier in January 2017 and has made 18 youth caps for France.

Sanson has established himself as one of the most exciting midfield players in France. He would be an ideal addition for the Everton side, who need to spend wisely this summer if they are to climb the table next season.

The Toffees boss Marco Silva knows time is running out to bring in more reinforcements ahead of the new season.

So far this summer the Merseysiders have added the likes of Jonas Lossl, Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph, while Silva remains hopeful of landing Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma on a permanent basis after his successful loan last year.

Silva must also be wary of Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Idrissa Gueye, with the French champions confident of signing the Senegalese this summer. (h/t France Football) Gueye is keen to join PSG having missed out during the January transfer window as Everton were reluctant to lose one of their important players in midst of the campaign.

As Gueye’s departure from Goodison Park looks very likely, Silva would do a good job by strengthening his midfield with Morgan Sanson. Gueye and Sanson are two very different players, with the latter creative and versatile.

A central midfielder by trade, Sanson is an excellent distributor of the ball and someone who wins his tackles.

He is strong on the ball, a competent dribbler, tenacious tackler with an eye for a defence-splitting pass. The Frenchman is credited with his all-round abilities and creativity, never shying away from being in both attacking and defensive situations.

Silva’s attacking style would certainly fit the Marseille midfielder, who uses his skill, dribbling and passing abilities to great effect. In the Everton manager’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system, the Frenchman can be used on the left in the double pivot with Andre Gomes.

Verdict

All in all, Everton should go all out in their pursuit of Sanson this summer and wrap up a deal at the earliest to enhance their chances of breaking into the top six next season.
