Coady leaves Wolves after falling behind Max Kilman and Nathan Collins in Bruno Lage’s pecking order with the Portuguese manager moving to play four-at-the-back during this campaign.

Frank Lampard has moved quickly to bring in defensive reinforcements after scans confirmed Ben Godfrey will be out up to three months following an injury during the Premier League opening day defeat to Chelsea.

Coady brings a seven-year-spell at Molineux to an end following his arrival from Huddersfield in 2015.

He made over 310 appearances and captained the club to the Championship title in 2017/18, as well as leading the team to the Europa League quarter-finals in 2020.

England head coach Gareth Southgate has given him 10 caps at international level with his decision to move back to Merseyside believed to be based around earning his place in the 2022 World Cup squad.

Coady began his career at Everton’s city rivals, Liverpool.
