Everton set to offer Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite a new contract

At one point, Manchester United were in talks with as many as three centre-backs but so far, the club have only signed one – the player least likely to come to Old Trafford.

Leny Yoro was considered an improbable acquisition owing to Real Madrid’s interest in the Frenchman. However, United’s relentless approach impressed the defender and he ultimately signed on the dotted lines and made his debut against Rangers in a pre-season friendly at the weekend.

Matthijs de Ligt was considered the easiest to get but their latest bid was rejected by Bayern Munich but both parties continue to remain in negotiations.

United first jumped for Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton, considering him to be the perfect fit owing to his ability to play on the left side of the defence.

Branthwaite future

The Toffees have so far rejected two bids in the region of £45 million and £50 million and are holding out for £70 million, something INEOS are unlikely to pay.

Amadou Onana’s sale meant the Merseysiders had no further need to sell players to balance their books with their upcoming takeover set to settle their financial woes.

But as that collapsed, the 20-time English league champions felt they had the chance to sneak back into the reckoning and were mulling over a fresh approach even through it would not be close to Everton’s valuation.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Sean Dyche’s club have no intention of parting ways with the England international irrespective of the takeover outcome.

They plan to offer the 22-year-old a new contract which will hopefully ward of potential suitors. The new contract proposal is expected to be sent to the player this summer.

New deal in the pipeline

“Everton are preparing new contract proposal for Jarrad Branthwaite after rejecting two proposals from Manchester United.

“Club determined to keep Branthwaite unless huge bid arrives but Man United have no intention to pay £75/80m. New deal proposal to be sent this summer,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Branthwaite’s current Everton contract is valid until 2027 which means the Goodison Park outfit are in a strong position despite the Red Devils agreeing on personal terms with the England international.

The centre-back is not expected to agitate for a move away. The ball is in INEOS’ court and whether they can submit a huge offer will also depend on player sales.
