The Toffees see Marvin Plattenhardt as an ideal long-term replacement for Leighton Baines after the German finishes playing at the World Cup.

Baines has been a first team player on Merseyside for 11 seasons since transferring from Wigan Athletic in 2007 and will turn 34 in December.

Plattenhardt started against Mexico in Germany’s World Cup opener on Sunday. The 26-year old notched seven assists for Hertha BSC from the left back position in the 2017/18 Bundesliga season.

As the defender has enough on his plate at the tournament in Russia, Plattenhardt’s agent gave the following quote to German paper Bild on the topic.

“Good left-backs are in demand. But Marvin concentrates on the World Cup first. Everything else will be discussed after the tournament.”

At the conclusion of the tournament, the player’s agent will meet with Everton to discuss his €18m transfer.
