Amid a growing number of transfer rumours, Éverton Ribeiro made his intentions clear as he scored a pivotal brace to help Flamengo defeat Argentinian side Talleres 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Scorers: Gabigol 11′ (P), Éverton Ribeiro 26′, 60′; Fértoli 45+1′

Flamengo wasted no time asserting their dominance at the Maracanã, drawing a penalty less than 10 minutes into proceedings, which Gabigol would convert.

15 minutes later, Éverton Ribeiro scored a beautiful goal to make it 2-0. More importantly, his celebration was very intense, slapping and kissing the Flamengo badge which seemed to signal his intent to stay amid several rumours taking him elsewhere in Brazil or in Saudi Arabia.

It wasn’t completely smooth sailing for the Rubro-Negro as the visitors would score through Héctor Fértoli just before half-time, which forced Paulo Sousa to change his team talk.

Flamengo would pile on the pressure in the second half and extend their lead back to two at the hour-mark, with Éverton Ribeiro completing a well-deserved brace.

It wasn’t all good news on Tuesday, however, as Flamengo will wait the news on Matheuzinho after he was forced off in the 32nd minute.

Flamengo are now on six points and leading Group H after their victory over Sporting Cristal last week. Universidad Católica defeated Sporting Cristal 2-1 earlier in the evening, putting the Chileans on three points, level with Talleres.
