Flamengo will begin their quest for their 38th Campeonato Carioca title next Wednesday when they take on Portuguesa in the first match of the Taça Guanabara.
The Rubro-Negro have won four of the last five state titles and have lifted the trophy in each of the last three years.
Flamengo usher in a new era under manager Paulo Sousa and Éverton Ribeiro is eager to get started.
“The expectation is great. A new era is beginning,” he told Fla TV. “The manager arrived and has implemented his way of playing, his concepts, and we are having a good pre-season.
“We are preparing very well for the Carioca Championship in order to win the title again.”
Flamengo won the Taça Guanabara last season, beating Volta Redonda in the final.
