In a recent report, O Jogo mentioned that Everton have reignited their interest in Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis. It has been stated that the Toffees are in the running to recruit the Portuguese midfield ace this summer.
Luis has experienced a solid campaign in Portugal after putting in a run of influential displays at the heart of Benfica’s midfield. The 24-year-old has participated in 45 matches for the Portuguese outfit this season but has failed to score or assist a goal for them across all fronts.
The Lobito-born talent has offered decent protection for his teammates at the back by averaging 2.6 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 89% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Portuguese club will expire in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Toffees to sign him on a cut-price deal in the upcoming transfer window.

Luis is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He is a decent passer of the ball as well but needs to start contributing in other ways at the centre of the park.
The Portuguese talent has anchored the midfield with conviction for Benfica this season. However, the jury is still out on whether he can cope with the physical style and high intensity of Premier League football if Everton manage to snap him up later this year.
We can expect Luis to add more bite and steel to the Merseyside club‘s midfield. He might also help the Toffees compete across all fronts in the coming years. At 24, Luis still has a lot of room to grow as a football and could prove himself to be a success story at Goodison Park in the long run. With all things considered, the Portuguese midfield ace would be a good fit for Everton‘s needs as they have to find a way to improve their backline ahead of the new campaign.
