Everton, now under the ownership of the Friedkin Group, appear intent on building not just for survival, but for long-term Premier League stability. One of their most compelling targets this summer is David Hancko, the Slovakian centre-back who has become a cornerstone at Feyenoord.
As reported by Tutto Mercato, Hancko is attracting interest from across Europe due to his adaptability, tactical awareness, and left-footed balance—an increasingly rare profile in the modern game. Juventus, too, have made him a top defensive priority, but Everton’s intent is clear.

They view Hancko as a foundational piece to build their back line around. One source noted: “Hancko plays in both a back four and a three-man defence, can cover centrally or wider, and has leadership qualities Everton admire.”
The challenge for Everton lies in the numbers. Feyenoord are open to selling for €40 million, a sum that places him firmly in the top bracket for defenders in the Eredivisie. Juventus may attempt to lower that figure using player exchanges, but Everton would likely need to meet the fee head-on.
Other clubs in the hunt include Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid, both of whom could offer Champions League football—something Everton cannot yet match. However, the Toffees’ promise of a pivotal role and Premier League spotlight could still weigh heavily in negotiations.
Hancko fits the profile of a player who could define a new era at Goodison Park: technically sound, composed in possession, and physically imposing. With a squad in need of reinforcement and leadership, Everton’s pursuit is more than pragmatic—it’s symbolic of a club aiming higher.

It’s been years since Everton looked like they had a plan—a real plan. Chasing David Hancko feels like more than a headline; it feels like a proper move, a modern decision for a modern defender. Left-footed, versatile, calm under pressure—he’s exactly what their back line has lacked.
Sure, €40 million is a lot. But if Everton wants to stop looking over their shoulders and start building something lasting, this is the kind of signing they need to make. He’s not just a defender—he’s a leader in the making. And at 26, he’s hitting his prime.
