Everton are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker, according to reports.
The Toffees have only signed James Tarkowski on a free transfer this summer. However, they are now plotting a move to sign Dendocker, per Fabrizio Romano.
The Belgian is admired both by Frank Lampard and the club’s board.
The 27-year-old joined the Midlands outfit in 2018 and has since made 120 appearances in the Premier League.
His current contract at the Molineux Stadium expires in 2023, but Wolves have the option to extend it by another year.
Perfect signing for Everton
Dendoncker has been a consistent performer in the English top-flight for Wolves.
He is highly rated for his versatility as he can play as a centre-back and is also comfortable in central midfield and defensive midfield.
He has been an important squad member over the last four years, playing regularly under both Nuno Espirito Santo and Bruno Lage.
The Belgium international made 29 Premier League appearances last season, scoring two goals and bagging two assists. He also made 1.4 tackles and 1.1 clearances per game in the English top-flight (as per WhoScored).
Everton need midfield reinforcements, with the Merseyside club losing Donny van de Beek and Fabian Delph this summer.
Dendoncker could be a quality addition for the Toffees, and they shouldn’t miss out on signing him if the transfer fee is reasonable.
Frank Lampard’s side barely managed to stay in the top-flight last season after a series of impressive performances towards the end of the campaign.
They should be aiming to finish higher up the table this season and need quality additions to achieve that.
