Everton find themselves in a 'strange' situation over the contract of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, journalist Paul Brown has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The Toffees have yet to announce a contract extension for the England international, with his current terms running until the summer of 2024.

Everton contract news - Jordan Pickford

Before the window, The Daily Mail reported that Pickford's future at Everton was in doubt following the news that the club are yet to ratify a five-year extension that the 28-year-old had apparently agreed to before the World Cup.

The report suggests the delay has alerted several Premier League clubs to his availability, with his contract ticking towards its final year by the day. Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are all monitoring developments surrounding the Toffees' goalkeeper.

The hold-up is believed to have come from boardroom level at Goodison Park, with no justification emerging as to why the contract hasn't been signed.

Since then, not much has happened in the way of developments regarding the £110,000-a-week ace, which will worry Everton fans as they could lose one of their star men in the summer.

What has Paul Brown said about Jordan Pickford?

Journalist Brown believes that the Pickford contract situation at Everton is a 'strange' debacle that could indicate 'some kind of problem' over negotiations.

Brown told GMS: "The Pickford situation is a bit strange because there was a lot of noise around him pre-World Cup that his contract was basically done, all agreed, it just needed signing off and, for whatever reason, that hasn't happened.

"Sometimes clubs get players signed and they just don't announce it for a few months for whatever reason, but I do think, in this case, there is some kind of problem that we haven't been fully informed of yet, which is a bit of a worry."

Will Everton be able to tie Pickford down long-term?

Realistically, it is anyone's guess whether Everton will actually be able to tie Pickford down right now, in light of their problems both on and off the field of play.

The Toffees sit joint-bottom of the Premier League table on 15 points and it would be inconceivable that a player of Pickford's calibre would be kept on in the event the club did get relegated.

Nevertheless, the arrival of new manager Sean Dyche may breathe new life into the possibility of an extended stay for Pickford if the former Burnley boss can steady the ship.

For now, all focus at Everton will be on survival, which could be vital in securing the future of not just Pickford but several other players.
