Everton have been ‘asking’ about the availability of Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech this January, journalist Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The Toffees are known to be in the market for attacking reinforcements as they look to avoid relegation and have seemingly turned their attention to the talented 29-year-old.

Everton transfer news – Hakim Ziyech

Sky Sports have revealed that Everton ‘want to sign’ Ziyech as a possible replacement for Anthony Gordon, who has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.

It’s claimed that the Merseyside outfit are prepared to pay up to £25 million to secure the Morocco international’s signature and that Chelsea are open to the idea of sanctioning his sale.

Ziyech still has two and a half years left to run on his £100,000-per-week contract at Stamford Bridge, but his long-term future at the club has been in doubt for some time now.

swooped at the last minute, forcing Everton to turn their attention to alternative targets.

What has Romano said about Ziyech?

It’s been a frustrating window for Everton so far, and they have been unable to make any additions to their first-team squad.

Yet Romano has informed GMS that the Goodison Park side, alongside Aston Villa, have been making enquiries over Ziyech and that they have been informed they’ll ‘have to pay’ for his services.

He said: “English clubs are interested. Some of the ones you mentioned, like Everton and Aston Villa, are asking about the situation, but they have to pay.”

Would Ziyech be a good signing?

Ziyech departed Ajax for Chelsea in a £33 million deal in 2020 after notching up an impressive 49 goals and 81 assists in 165 games for the Eredivisie giants.

However, the creative talent has struggled to produce the same level of output for Chelsea, racking up just 25 goal contributions in 98 appearances.

As per FBref, Ziyech has ranked in the 90th percentile for attempted passes, 88th for total shots, 87th for progressive passes, 85th for tackles, and 84th for clearances amongst his positional peers over the last year.

It’s clear that Ziyech does possess the attributes required to help Everton out of their current situation, therefore, but persuading him to join a relegation battle may prove to be a difficult task.
